Dear (insert name)

I have truly enjoyed being HR Assistant at ABC Company, and appreciate the support and training you have been able to offer me.  However after careful consideration, and for personal reasons, I have decided to resign from this post.  Please therefore accept this letter as my notice, where I understand my notice period is 4 weeks, less any annual leave owed.

I will do everything possible to ensure that the company and HR department continues to work effectively while you seek a replacement for the post.

Thank you again for the opportunities you have given me throughout my career at ABC.

Kind regards

I remember resigning in my first ever job and I had no idea how to do a letter. I just wrote 'I hereby tender my resignation and give notice of four weeks'. I only realised afterwards how rude that seemed and that I should have sounded rather more grateful for the opportunities I was given. I did go back to work in the department on a temporary basis too but luckily they did not hold it against me! I do think a better written letter will help if you want to ask for references or go back there to work. Has anyone else had similar experiences?
