How to Find a Volunteer Job in the UK
« on: June 02, 2010, 07:56:38 AM »

There is nothing more satisfying than helping someone in need of  assistance. If you are the type of person who enjoys doing things for  others, then a volunteer job might just be the thing for you. There are  a lot of volunteer jobs available, you just have to know how to find  them.

Determine the area you want to volunteer in. There are many openings  for volunteers in animal shelters, assisted living facilities,  libraries, after school programs and even in your own neighborhood.

Visit your church outreach program. Many churches have a food programs  or programs where people visit elderly parishioners to read scripture  to them.

Check with your employer. Often, the human resources department can  provide you with a list of charities or other organizations your  company regularly donates to. They also can tell you if the company is  organizing a volunteer day.

Pay a visit to a neighbor. If you have elderly neighbors and are  confused as to where to volunteer, it may be as simple as helping them  with yard work or other household chores.

First of all, it is vital to remember that this type of work will do you a lot of good in the long term, as it looks brilliant on your CV. I would also say that it is just as rewarding to help out a relative as it would be to volunteer to the public - and you might find that you can get closer to people you haven't spoken to since childhood!
