Tesco Job Application Form
« on: September 17, 2009, 11:34:18 PM »

If you are interested in Tesco jobs then you’ll be pleased to know that Tesco employees rate their time at work as really great! Tescos know that it’s down to their staff to provide their customers with the high level of customer service that is expected, and pride themselves in offering the little things that keep their staff and their customers happy.

Tesco is a big employer in the UK and it is worth being aware of the job opportunities that they have. People may think that they just employ check out staff, but there are other jobs as well. If you are interested in applying or a job at Tesco, then there are also some tips below for this.

Type of Jobs

As well as staff working in the shop doing jobs such as cleaning, shelf staking, working on the till, behind counters in the deli and in the bakery, there are also store manager positions. In the head office there are also many more job opportunities in marketing, purchasing, finance, personnel, property, ordering and many other business roles.

Tesco are committed to training their people to do their job, and then if they want to develop their career, give them further development and training through Options Development Programme (providing leadership, general and operating skills), Apprenticeships in Retail or encouraging employees to self-study whilst working.  Tesco claim to be obsessed about training, and really love developing their existing staff for internal transfers, and a massive 80% of their management roles are filled by existing team members.

How to apply

Related: How do I apply for a role at Tesco?

So once you’ve decided to apply for a role at Tesco, you’ll need to know that Tesco are looking for people who are passionate about retail, keen to focus on the customer, determined to achieve success, prepared to get things done, respond to customer feedback, motivated working in a team, flexible and adaptable within the business and devoted to their own development.

Related: Tesco store and job openings

For customer assistants working in the stores, or store pickers in the distribution centre Tesco encourage you to visit the store to talk to the people there and find out what sort of jobs you’ll be doing, and what the actual employees think about working there.  They will also have a list of the current vacancies, and application forms for you to complete and return to the store. If you’re interested in a Store or Distribution Managers role or Pharmacist then these will be advertised on the Tesco careers website, and if there is a role which matches your skills and interests you can apply via the website.  You will be contacted within a couple of weeks to let you know if your application has been successful, at which stage you’ll be invited to the Tesco management assessment centre in central London.

Management and head office jobs are all advertised on the website. There is a search tool to help with seeing what is available. You will then be expected to apply online and if you are accepted for an interview you will go to the assessment centre in London. The online application consists of a registration process, application form and then equality form. It will take about half an hour to do and so make sure that you are prepared for this, have all the required information to hand and have a time slot where you will not be disturbed so that you can concentrate on the application.

If you are looking for a customer assistant role then you can still use the website to find out more. Take a look to find out which store and distribution centres are near to where you live or where you want to work. You are then encouraged to visit the place and talk to the people working there about job opportunities.
Tesco application tips

It is always important to do your research about the company before you apply for a job there. You want to make sure that you will be happy working or that company before you go to the effort of applying or a job there. Tesco has a lot of information on their website about the company in general, the types of people they employ and what opportunities there are. So check this out first.

If you are going in to a local store or depot to make an enquiry about a job, take a look around it first. How you are approached will depend on the person you speak to in that specific place but you may be asked a few questions about why you want to apply or about your experience, so be prepared. Have some positive things to say about Tesco or that particular shop before you go there. It may be a place you enjoy shopping at or you may have a lot of respect for Tesco. If nothing springs to mind then have a good think before you go. Saying that you are prepared to do any job because you are desperate for the money, will not be good enough!

It is always important to look at the requirements and make sure that you can show that you have the necessary skills for the job. However, it is also important to look at Tesco as a company and what their ethos is and make sure that you can help fit in with this.

Tesco Head office is based in central London, and has a number of different functions to support the stores and distribution centres, and the customer service centres.
