Kent Jobs - Kent sees drop in permanent placements
« on: August 31, 2012, 08:42:51 AM »

According to employment agencies this week figures show that permanent job vacancies are down in the Kent region, dashing hopes that recent monthly falls in unemployment would continue.

Figures released by financial information services company Markit reveal the region performed below the national average, over the past few weeks,  on a par with the pace of decline in the north.

But billings for temporary staff did see a slight increase owing to the shortage of temps currently available for work.

Recruitment and Employment Confederation chief executive Kevin Green warned that confidence was affecting firms decision to hire effectively “slowing down” the process.

He warned the situation could worsen as thousands of school and university leavers join the jobs market over the coming weeks adding that a “skills shortage” could add to the problem.

Mr Green added;

The UK’s labour market deserves a gold medal for its incredible performance in the face of adversity so far this year.

"In the last few months, it has defied gravity as unemployment has fallen and jobs grew even while the economy slipped back into recession. But this run might be coming to an end as this month’s data shows an abrupt fall in permanent appointments in the south."
