Accounting Clerk Job interview Questions and Tips

If you are looking for a position as an Accounting Clerk then you will have had previous experience in working in an accounts department. You will usually do a variety of tasks in this role such as balancing accounts, dealing with invoices, petty cash etc and you may wish to do some accounting qualifications and progress your career from this role.

You will need to be very organised and efficient to do this role well and have a good head for figures. You will need to be able to demonstrate this at your interview so it is important to make sure you know exactly what the position entails and then you can match it to your CV and see what areas you are missing or if none what you would like to learn in the future.

Your interviewer will be keen to know how well you work on your own initiative and whether you are able to concentrate on figures for long periods of time and also how well you work in a team as you will usually work in a team with at least one other person depending on the size of the company.
During your interview you should prepare for questions such as:

Accounting Clerk Interview Questions
  • Have you ever worked with purchase orders and what system was used?
  • What Accounts computerised packages have you used and to what level?
  • What part did you play in dealing with the Accountants at the year end?
  • How do you work, organised or chaotic?
  • What kind of accounts queries have you had to deal with in the past?
  • Where do you see your accounting career in the next 5 years?
Your interviewer will be looking to make sure that you are a very thorough individual and very accurate and that you have a confidential nature as you will be privy to some very important and sensitive information.

You will also receive typical / most asked interview questions too:
  • Tell me about yourself.
  • What are your strengths?
  • What are your weaknesses?
  • Why do you want this job?
  • Where would you like to be in your career five years from now?
  • What’s your ideal company?
  • What attracted you to this company?
  • Why should we hire you?
  • What did you like least about your last job?
  • When were you most satisfied in your job?
  • What can you do for us that other candidates can’t?
  • What were the responsibilities of your last position?
