Dear Ms Wright,

I am writing in response to your advertisement for the position of Secretary at Jones & Co. I would like to apply for this position as I am positive that my experience in the field of administration is suited to the role.

I am an experienced Secretary with five years of extensive practice in this field. I am highly skilled in performing word processing along with data entry activities and desktop publishing, managing meetings along with taking minutes of the meeting and maintaining records and any other supportive document that a department needs.
In addition, I am accomplished in creating and responding to correspondence with minimal input from a manager, can work independently and under pressure for long periods. My customer services experience demonstrates my ability to work with customers and to understand what they need and meeting those requirements according to the company’s procedures and policies.

I have attached my CV with this letter to give further information about my skills and abilities. I appreciate your time in reading this application and would welcome the opportunity to interview. I look forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience.

As a secretary, you might be expected to write letters and contact people via email or post, so sending a cover letter along with your CV can be quite a good way of showing off your writing skills.


Because a good knowledge of the English language is required for jobs such as secretaries, PAs and receptionists, make sure your cover letter isn't riddled with errors. If you're not sure about certain words or if certain sentences/phrases are grammatically correct, use the internet to help you or ask a friend.
