Dear Sirs

I should like to apply for the role of Maintenance Engineer as advertised recently.

I work in engineering maintenance as part of a team of engineering technicians, where I am responsible for making sure all plant machinery and equipment runs smoothly. I carry out both preventative checks, as well as emergency maintenance and running repairs for a building construction company and, as such, most of my work takes place out on site or, if not, I have to schedule and arrange the transportation of abnormal loads to transport broken down heavy earth moving equipment back to the maintenance centre.

Part of my duties involve preparing, carrying out and over-seeing the maintenance schedule, allocating work to our team of fitters, checking and calibrating instruments to make sure they are accurate, fitting new parts, carrying out quality inspections, responding immediately to equipment breakdowns, fixing faults on site or arranging for replacement machinery or equipment to be installed, keeping production managers informed of progress and organising teams or individuals to make sure that 24-hour cover is available.

Most of our systems are computerised, although we do also use a range of hydraulic and pneumatic machinery for the heavy lifting.

I joined the company as an apprentice and have a City and Guilds Certificate in Engineering (2800). I have just registered with the Engineering Council to help me continue to develop my professional qualifications.
As part of my career progression I am very keen to join your company because of its outstanding reputation for producing world-class engineering projects and am willing to relocate to the West Midlands where the post will be based as I would very much like to work in a maintenance team management role.
I enclose my CV and am available for interview at your convenience. References are available on request and I very much look forward to hearing from you as appropriate.

Yours faithfully
