Tesco Christmas Jobs - A Guide for Tesco Temp Jobs
« on: September 20, 2012, 06:41:44 AM »
Christmas is a busy time for retailers across the nation.  It has been reported that over 70,000 temporary jobs will be created over this season from leading retailers who are anxious to keep up with the demands of their customers.

Food retailer Tesco is no exception to this rule.  Although reported to have a bad Christmas last year in 2011, thanks to the Olympics this year, projections look good for the company.  As a result of this, they have announced that they will be expecting to take on 12,000 people this Christmas.  Good news for many who are unemployed.

Application Process

There are a variety of ways to begin the application process depending on what the preferred role is.  Most casual jobs over Christmas tend to be in the stores and warehouses and there is a variety of different types of

Tesco stores to choose from:
  • Express – In more rural areas close to work and home
  • Metro – Found in larger towns and cities
  • Tesco – Superstores
  • Extra – Stocking wider variety of food and non-food products
  • Home-Plus – Non-food products only e.g. Clothes, electrical items, furniture
Application forms can be requested in person from the store, or applicants can drop their CV off in store as well.  Customer assistant positions do not tend to be advertised online, but a store locater is available on the Tesco site itself.  All prospective employees can find out which store is closest to them and pop in to speak to somebody about any available posts.

If the initial application is well received, interviews will be offered.  Should the interviews go well; the person will receive a welcome pack and begin work at the earliest opportunity.  Temporary applications are processed quickly in order not to lose time and ensure that Tesco have the support needed for the busy season.  Great advice for interviews and filling out the application form can be found on the Tesco career website.

Future employment with Tesco

There is every possibility that a temporary position can lead to a permanent one.  The experience of a temporary position anywhere is invaluable.  Working for a well-known retailer such as Tesco will not only stand employees in good stead should Tesco be taking on staff in the future, but also any other similar retailer.

In order to stand a chance of consideration for a permanent job, employees should make sure that they adhere to all company rules and guidelines and prove themselves to be reliable, hard workers who can help their team.
